If you're a true DIY-er, or something of a handyman, you may have thought
about tackling the task of your own Outdoor Porcelain Tiles installation.
You could save money by installing your flooring yourself, instead of hiring a
contractor. But, it does require careful plan and pre-planning. If you do make a
mistake while finishing your floor with porcelain tiles, you could end up
needing to put in more effort (and cost!) to fix your errors. You can feel
accomplished when you plan and use the correct tools.
These are some helpful tips to install porcelain tile flooring.
You must make sure you prepare your subfloor
You may have to start from scratch when you encounter an issue with your
subfloor. You should ensure that your subfloor is even. If it is not, you can
apply a patch to make adjustments. If you're not planning to install porcelain
floor tiles over a cement floor, backer boards can be an alternative. Backer
boards should be ordered which are bigger than the ones you think you will need,
even an extra 10% to ensure you don't run low.
Mix your tiles
If you have several boxes of porcelain floor tile, take the tiles out from
the various boxes and mix them together randomly. This will keep any color
variations between tiles from producing a noticeable color shift on your
flooring made of porcelain.
Set out the porcelain tiles
Make sure you lay your porcelain patio tiles, in the desired pattern, prior
to applying any adhesive. Start at the center of your room. Lay the tiles in a
line toward the wall, leaving small gaps between each tile. A quadrant at a take
over the space. Carrying out this step helps you ensure that you have the proper
amount of tiles to finish the job. Additionally, you will be able to make
modifications to your tile like cutting tiles that fit around fixtures in the
bathroom.
Smooth your mix
If you would like your grout's thin-set or grout to appear extra smooth let
it sit for 10 minutes following mixing. This allows dry areas to absorb water.
Mix it one final time before applying. The finished product should be peanut
butter-like in consistency.
Back-butter your tiles
Back-buttering involves using your trowel and apply thin set to your tile
porcelain paving. This is similar to buttering bread. This is helpful in
situations where you 1) are located in a corner and cannot apply thin-set to
your floor with your trowel, or 2)) require that the tile sit a little higher
than the others, or 3) the tile is a bigger tile, like 12x12 or larger.
Save extra porcelain tiles
Once you've laid the floor with porcelain tiles Be sure to keep any tiles left over! You can pack them up and label the container with the name or room you've tiled. If tiles are in other rooms, you will need to mark it. If you need to replace tiles in your home, you won't have to be concerned about finding the perfect match ceramic floor tiles.
